Schnapsen is a card game of the Bézique-family. It is very popular in Germany and in the countries of former Austria-Hungary. In folk-etymology the name originates from alcohol, especially hard liquor, for which it was gambled.
Schnapsen is played with 20 cards, the Tens, Jacks, Queens, Kings and Aces of all four suits. Once both players have received 5 cards, the uppermost card is turned face up to determine the Trumps suit. The object of the game is to either win 66 points or win the last trick.
